Wire tourniquet
From BonsaiWIKI
A wire tourniquet is a means of mechanically constricting the flow of sap at the site of an air layer. A loop of bonsai wire is placed around the trunk or branches to be layered and tightened with bonsai pliers.
As the tree grows, the wire will girdle the expanding cambium, disrupting the flow of sap. This will stimulate the production of roots at the site of the layer.
