Slabs

Two types of slab are common in bonsai planting and formal display:
- Stone slabs are used for plantings; typically as bonsai pot alternative for forests and less commonly single trunk bonsai specimens.
- Wood slabs are used for the display of bonsai. These sections of trunk are cut thinly and finished with varnish, lacquer, oil and/or stain. Slabs can be used instead of bonsai stands
