Scroll

From BonsaiWIKI

Scrolls are calligraphy or brush-painted or India ink scenes that are painted on long, rolled up strips of rice paper, and used for display with bonsai.

The scroll might contain a haiku or tanka poem, or a picture of some kind. The scroll adds a dimension to the formal display of bonsai by helping to convey the context of the tree, geographically or in a specific season.

A winter scene of a monk climbing a remote mountain, for example might place a pine bonsai in an austere, mountaintop. An ink drawing of a dragonfly might put a blooming wisteria bonsai on the bank of a pond on a lazy, summer afternoon.
