Roots are the specialized structures of higher plants which grow beneath the soil line and make up the root system of a bonsai

1. absorb water and nutrients from the soil they also secure the plant in place to prevent it from being dislocated by wind or erosion.
2. are also capable of storing starch, which is created by the plant as a food source.
3. anchor the plant securely in the ground.
