Root rot

Root rot is a condition often caused by prolonged exposure to high levels of moisture in the bonsai soil. When the soil remains soggy for extended periods of time, soilborne fungi of the genus Phytophthora may infect the roots, oxygen will not be able to reach the roots of the tree, promoting this fungal infection.
