Moss as a weed
From BonsaiWIKI
I am going out on a limb here, or perhaps under one, when I label true mosses as potential bonsai weeds. Sure they look great when they're limited to a neat pad around the roots of the tree, but when they cover the entire soil surface or scurry up the trunk of your tree, watch out! Serious health problems are incipient if the roots are deprived of oxygen for any length of time, and the soil just won't drain well.
Keep your moss under control, and don't allow it to take over the entire surface of your pot. 1/3 to 1/2 of the soil surface is a reasonable limit.
