Flaws

From BonsaiWIKI

Flaws are characteristics that typically detract from aesthetic appearance. Somewhat paradoxically, certain flaws can provide a unique aspect of beauty to a bonsai or bonsai container. Like the mole on the cheek of a fashion model or a pair of particularly wide set eyes, what would at first seem like a defect could be a remarkable characteristic that is both unique and wonderful.

The way in which the bonsai artist resolves conflicts in the design to deal with potential flaws is a good measure of his or her skill.

Some common defects of a bonsai include

Reverse taper
One-sided roots
bar branches
eye-poking branch
