Fir bark
From BonsaiWIKI
fir bark is a component of some bonsai soils. It is the chipped or shredded bark (cork) of fir trees, used also for orchid growing. Fir bark has the ability to retain moisture, and the particles between the chipped bark create pore space that allow air and water to penetrate. Fir bark contains tannins which inhibit the rapid decay of the bark.
