Deciduous refers to a property of certain trees and shrubs that lose their foliage in winter. The vast majority of deciduous trees and shrubs are broadleaf trees but a few have needles. This property makes them distinct from EvergreensThe most common deciduous trees grown as bonsai include Maples and Elms, but there are many other species that are cultivated, including Beech, and Hornbeam.
