Cut Paste for Bonsai

From BonsaiWIKI

Cut Paste is a compound used in the treatment of wounds on bonsai. The theory is that by covering a wound, the bonsai artist can protect the area from pathogens and disease and accelerate healing, while reducing the likelihood of withdrawal of sap

Three common wound sealants exist.

  1. Japanese Cut Paste (literally Kutto Pasta on the packaging) is much like Play-Dough in consistency and is available in a reddish brown and grey color for use on conifers or deciduous trees.
  2. Other products include Masakuni Brand Wound Sealant and
  3. Shin-Kiyonal, a grafting aid.

Many people have their own recipe for cut paste, some use modeling clay mixed with a few drops of (mineral) oil. Even Elmer's glue and Preparation H have been used. The links below address some of the controversies over the application of wound dressings on bonsai.
