Container selection
From BonsaiWIKI
Below are some general guidelines for the selection of Bonsai containers, relative to the style and type of tree.
Informal upright style (slant, informal upright) - informal pots (round or oval, soft cornered rectangles)
Formal upright style - geometric, hard edges with definite corners, feet
Clump style - lotus, slab, shallow squares
Cascade style- deeper squares, and rectangles - hex for semi-cascade style work well.
Forest style - shallow trays and slabs
Literati style - hand thrown, rough finished, shallow bowls
Deciduous trees - glazed pots
Flowering trees and Fruiting trees - brighter, more colorful glazes
Evergreen trees - unglazed, rough glazed or stone-finished pots
Mame and Shito - Smaller sized bonsai can often be planted in more colorful containers, irrespective of other guidelines.
