Bonsai stand
From BonsaiWIKI
Bonsai stands are platforms used in the formal display of bonsai. Stands are usually constructed of wood, and serve to raise the bonsai container above the surface of the table or floor, providing it with a sense of prominence.
Taller stands are used for cascade style trees and semi-cascade style bonsai bonsai. Very short, wide stands might be made of wooden slabs.
Bonsai stands might be antique calligraphy tables used by the Japanese, who historically knelt as they wrote. Or the stands could be more stylized, contemporary designs.
Bonsai stands are called dai or daiza in Japanese.
A particular type of low stand called a "slab" is constructed of a thin, cross section of tree trunk.
