Auxin

Auxins are plant hormones that stimulate growth and elongation of plant tissues. The most important is indoleacetic acid.
Auxins have a number of other functions, including:
Growth and division of cells in the cambium, apical dominance, development of roots on cuttings and division of the root system, phototropism, and setting fruit
"Auxin" comes from the Greek word auxein, which means "to grow".
